Module summary

This module enables absolute beginner students to further develop their language skills and to complete the level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Language Learning in this module is student-centred and task-based. The classroom is conceived as a social space for communication. Both written and oral tasks will be set. The teaching is by means of the Spanish language with students gaining a thorough grounding in Spanish grammar, the ability to write and speak the language with basic competence in a variety of contexts and sufficient confidence and skills to undertake private readings in Spanish and use them as a learning tool. Students who have some previous knowledge of Spanish should seek advice on what other modules are available to them according to their level and should not sign up for this module. There are other Spanish Language modules available in the Spanish Subject Group (modules starting with a SPPO code) and modules in Spanish Language taught in the Language Centre (modules starting with a FLTU code).
